How Henry Ansu's own goal contributed to Kotoko's defeat

Before the own goal stole the spotlight, Kotoko had actually made a strong start.

In the 16th minute, Albert Amoah expertly controlled a cross-field delivery before calmly slotting past Emmanuel Kobi to give the Porcupine Warriors the lead.

Kotoko dictated play afterwards, but a lapse at the back allowed Samuel Atta Kumi to slip through.

Captain Ndongani Samba Oneil brought him down, leaving the referee with no option but to award a penalty.

Kumi stepped up and tucked it away to level the score before halftime.

The second half saw Kotoko, who finished fourth last season, pushing forward, with Amoah once again going close but firing wide from a promising position.

That miss proved costly, as moments later, Ansu’s ill-fated back pass rolled into his own net, gifting Gold Stars the lead, per Ghanasoccernet.

Despite mounting late pressure, Kotoko could not find an equaliser. Gold Stars held their ground and walked away with all three points.

According to Ghana Sports Page, Kotoko will now have to regroup quickly as they prepare to face Heart of Lions on Friday night.
