During his time in the Premier League, he clocked over 100 appearances for Arsenal and became a vital cog in Mikel Arteta’s system, as highlighted by Transfermarkt.

Despite battling multiple injuries that hampered his consistency, Partey’s quality was never in doubt.

When fit, he was a dependable force, offering tactical intelligence and the flexibility to fill multiple roles across the pitch. He often took up hybrid responsibilities, combining defensive duties with progressive play.

Thomas Partey takes a huge pay cut to join Villarreal

Off the pitch, Partey was one of the top earners at English club Arsenal.

He pocketed £200,000 per week, a figure that placed him just below Kai Havertz, Gabriel Jesus, Martin Ødegaard, and Declan Rice on the club’s salary list, according to Spotrac.

However, his exit from the North London outfit came with the cost of leaving behind that substantial income.

Unsurprisingly, his new contract in Spain has sparked curiosity about how much he now earns.

According to Salary Leaks, Partey will receive €3.12 million annually before tax at Villarreal, which works out to about €60,000 per week.

This marks a staggering 74.5 per cent reduction in his wages compared to what he earned at Arsenal.

Why did Partey take a huge pay cut?

Several reasons could explain the massive decline in his pay. Age and fitness concerns certainly play a part.

But the most pressing issue likely stems from his ongoing legal battle, which continues to cast a shadow over his professional journey.

Currently, the midfielder faces six serious charges: five related to non-consensual acts and one involving a sexual act.

These allegations have not only affected public perception but also sparked backlash when his move to Villarreal was announced.

A section of the Spanish club's supporters voiced concerns, especially given that the legal case remains unresolved.

Before sealing his move to Spain, Partey was granted conditional bail by Westminster Magistrates’ Court.

He is expected to return to court on September 2, as the case progresses. Through it all, he has maintained his innocence.
