How did Diogo Jota die?
In the early hours of a Thursday morning, a suspected tyre blowout caused the Lamborghini carrying Jota and Silva to burst into flames, leading to the untimely demise of the two brothers.
According to a BBC report, the Premier League player was allegedly speeding, according to Spanish police.
The accident occurred on a remote stretch of road, leaving emergency services helpless to save the brothers. News of the incident spread rapidly, casting a heavy shadow across the world of sport.
Tributes poured in from around the globe. Clubs, players, and fans alike expressed disbelief and sorrow. Liverpool, where Jota has played since 2020, suspended all club media and posted a heartfelt message remembering a player who was as loved off the pitch as he was admired on it.
Just 11 days before the crash, Jota had married his long-term partner, Rute Cardoso. The couple, proud parents of three young children, had celebrated a joyful milestone, unaware of the heartbreak that lay ahead.

Diogo Jota's funeral
On July 5, 2025, the brothers were laid to rest in their hometown of Gondomar, near Porto, Portugal. The funeral service, held at the Igreja Matriz de Gondomar, was a powerful display of solidarity and grief.
The sound of a tolling bell accompanied the arrival of the coffins, which were met with applause from mourners lining the street.
According to Sky Sports, Liverpool manager Arne Slot led a delegation of players including Virgil van Dijk, Andy Robertson, Curtis Jones, and Darwin Nunez.
From Portugal's national team, stars such as Bruno Fernandes, Ruben Dias, Bernardo Silva, and Joao Felix also attended, showing their deep respect for their fallen teammate.
