Tributes are pouring in for Northern Irish footballer Aaron Moffett, who has sadly passed away following a serious road traffic accident.

The 38-year-old, from Knocknamuckley in County Armagh, was critically injured in a crash last month and had been hospitalised since the incident.

His death was confirmed by DUP MLA Jonathan Buckley, who described Moffett as a well-loved figure and paid tribute to his lasting impact both on and off the pitch.

He said:

"It is with deep sadness that we have learned of the passing of Aaron Moffett this evening. Since the accident on 12th July, countless prayers have been said on Aaron’s behalf.

Dollingstown FC has paid an emotional tribute to Aaron Moffett, describing him as the heart and soul of the club following his passing.

According to the BBC, the 38-year-old was a long-serving captain of the side for 13 years in the Playr-Fit NIFL Premier Intermediate League, before stepping into the role of club secretary, where he continued to contribute immensely to the team’s growth and success.

“It is with total sadness that we announce the passing of Aaron Moffett,” the club wrote in a heartfelt social media post. “Moff was simply Mr Dollingstown, loved by all.”

Aaron Moffett's death comes barely after YEN.com.gh reported that a key eyewitness to the crash that claimed Diogo Jota’s life has disputed early police claims that speed was a factor.
