The Chairman of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has been enstooled as the "Chief Warrior" of the Otublohum State in the Greater Accra Region.

Following his installation as the Chief Warrior, the NDC national chairman will now be known as Nii Otanka Okaija Akraman, his stool name.

According to the traditional leaders of Otublohum State, Asiedu Nketia was given the chieftaincy title because of his leadership qualities, resilience, and contributions to national development.

Asiedu Nketia, widely known in political circles as General Mosquito, has assumed a significant new role as Chief Warrior, a title that brings him closer to the traditional rulership, history and custom of the Ga people of the Otublohum State.

This new position places him in a unique situation where he must balance his national political duties with his traditional responsibilities.

His installation has drawn considerable attention from both the political and traditional sectors, emphasising the convergence of contemporary politics with Ghana's deep-rooted chieftaincy customs.

A brief profile of Aseidu Nketia

Asiedu Nketia is the longest-serving General Secretary of a political party in Ghana, holding the position for 17 years.

In December 2022, he was elected as the National Chairman of the NDC after defeating the incumbent, Dr Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, in a keenly contested elections.

He worked at GIHOC Distilleries Company Limited before advancing to managerial roles at Nkoraman Rural Bank and as a trainee manager at Sehwi Asawinso Rural Bank.

The NDC chairman is also a three-term Member of Parliamentary, representaig the people of Tain in the Bono Region of Ghana.

He also served as the Deputy Minister for Food and Agriculture, overseeing crops during the administration of the late Jerry John Rawlings.

Asiedu Nketia sworn in as Board Chairman GPHA

Meanwhile, YEN.com.gh reported earlier that the Chairman of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, was appointed as the Board Chairman of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA).

This appointment brought a seasoned leader with extensive experience in governance and public service to the helm of one of Ghana's most critical infrastructure institutions.

The NDC Chairman was sworn in as Board Chair of GPHA on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, by the Director-General of the GPHA, Brigadier-General Paul Seidu Tanye-Kulono.
