Following this announcement by the EC, Dr Seidu Mohammed, popularly known as Seidu Fiter, expressed his interest in replacing the late MP.
Declaring his bid in a Facebook post on Thursday, August 20, 2025, Dr Seidu Fiter said he decided to contest the vacant seat after extensive consultations with the rank and file of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), as well as traditional and religious leaders in the Tamale Central constituency.
Dr Seidu Fiter, who worked as an Assistant Lecturer with the Department of Population and Reproductive Health at the University for Development Studies (UDS), also cited his academic background as part of his political journey.
As a staunch member of the ruling NDC, Dr Seidu Fiter said he has served the party in numerous capacities.
"I am a staunch NDC party communicator. I serve on the regional communications team and have regularly represented the NDC on numerous national platforms, including the likes of Pan African Television, TV3, GHOne, Woezor TV, Onua FM, Kassapa FM, Radio Gold, Sagani TV, Zaa TV, NTV, etc," he said.
"On these platforms, I have always effectively propagated, to the satisfaction and admiration of my viewers, the goodwill of our great party, the National Democratic Congress," he added.

He further highlighted some of his contributions to the growth and success of the NDC in the Northern Region, particularly the Tamale Central Constituency.
"In the run-up to the 2024 elections, I designed, hosted and managed a political programme dubbed LEM LOORI for over two years on Diamond FM, located in Tamale," he stated.
"This programme was born from my intent to use effective communication to promote and highlight the good works of the NDC, including all the regional parliamentary candidates at the time, many of whom are now MPs. I firmly hope that the candidates who unfortunately lost their elections will win those seats for the party come 2028, while our incumbents retain theirs, so that the NDC can continue working diligently for the good people of Ghana with a resounding parliamentary majority," he added.

Dr Seidu Fiter also credited his growth as a young politician to the late Dr Murtala Mohammed, whom he claimed to have met in 2011.
"In this moment, while I reminisce about some of my works and achievements within the party, I cannot help but remember Hon. Murtala Mohammed, who greatly modeled me into who I am today. We lost an excellent comrade in Hon. Murtala, whom I first met on the 25th of December, 2011," he further stated.
