Obuasi Helicopter Crash: Ato Forson Reportedly Pulled Muntaka From the Flight, Details Emerge

The Minister of Interior, Alhaji Mubarak Mohammed Muntaka, could have been involved in the fatal helicopter crash near Obuasi on Wednesday, August 6, 2025.

The country has been sent into a state of mourning after a Ghana Armed Forces Z-9 helicopter crashed at the Sikaman Forest in the Adansi South District in the Ashanti Region.
The unfortunate incident claimed the lives of eight people, who were attending an anti-Galamsey event in Obuasi. Among the numerous victims were two cabinet ministers, Dr Edward Omane Boamah and Dr Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed.
The other government officials who died in the tragic helicopter crash were the Deputy National Security Coordinator, Limuna Muniru, a Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr Samuel Sarpong, and the Former Parliamentary Candidate for Obuasi East, Samuel Aboagye.
Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah were the Ghana Army officials who also tragically perished in the helicopter crash.
Ato Forson pulled Muntaka from Obuasi flight
Following the unfortunate incident, reports emerged that the Interior Minister, Alhaji Mubarak Mohammed Muntaka, was initially scheduled to be on the Ghana Armed Forces Z-9 helicopter with the victims of the crash.
However, the Minister is said to have missed the helicopter trip because he did not arrive on time.

In a discussion on TV3's New Day morning show on Thursday, the Deputy Director General at the National Sports Authority (NSA), Donkor Fuseni, shared that a last-minute action from the Finance Minister, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, prevented Alhaji Mubarak Mohammed Muntaka from boarding the fatal flight.

According to him, the Interior Minister was scheduled to be the fifth person in the helicopter before he was dragged out of the flight by Ato Forson for a meeting.
Donkor Fuseni also shared that the late Environment Minister Dr Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, who was not scheduled to travel in the helicopter, replaced Alhaji Mubarak Mohammed Muntaka on the fatal flight.

Muntaka speaks after the Obuasi helicopter crash
Following the tragic helicopter crash in Obuasi, Alhaji Mubarak Mohammed Muntaka shared a heartfelt message on social media as the nation mourned the loss of three military officers and five government officials in the Ashanti region.
In his post, the Interior Minister expressed condolences to the bereaved families of his late colleagues and expressed his sympathy to the crew members.
