The late Daasebre Osei Bonsu II was laid to rest on June 9, 2024. The burial rites, referred to as "Dɔte Yie," were completed same day, with the final ceremonies led by the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, at the Amaniampong Silver Stool Palace in Asante Mampong.

The three-day funeral proceedings began on June 7, following a pre-burial ceremony on June 6, 2024.

As tradition demands, a successor must be named and enstooled to build on the legacy of the late chief.

Consequently, the Mampong Hemaa, the Queen Mother of the Asante Mampong, met with the elders of the traditional council to devise a succession plan.

In a video circulating on social media, Nana Agyakoma Difie II was seen informing the MTC that she had opened nominations to select a new chief.

"Traditionally, Daasebre Osei Bonsu II is no longer with us, and we need a replacement. So, based on Asante tradition, the seat is now vacant, and I have opened nominations for all royals of Asante Mampong who have a legitimate claim to the throne to contest for it," she said.
