NPP Finance Gurus Declare Support for Kennedy Agyapong's Presidential Bid

The flagbearer race of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) is heating up as the various aspirants intensify their preparations for the elections, slated for January 2026.

One of the leading aspirants for the NPP's presidential primary, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, has formed a finance and economy team to spearhead his vision for Ghana.

According to a social media post by George Sarpong, a senior member of Kennedy Agyapong's communications team, Dr Mark Assibey Yeboah, former MP for New Juaben South and Chairman of the Parliamentary Sub-Select Committee on Finance, is a key member of the team.

Other prominent members of Agyapong's finance and economy team are Kwaku Kwarteng, MP for Obuasi West and former Deputy Finance Minister; Abena Osei Asare, MP for Atiwa East and former Deputy Finance Minister; Dr Stephen Amoah, MP for Nhyiaeso and former Deputy Finance Minister; and Dr Alex Ampaabeng, a fiscal policy expert.

By agreeing to be members of Kennedy Agyapong's economic and finance team, they have effectively endorsed his bid to lead the NPP as its presidential candidate in 2028.

Former MMDCEs reportedly endorse Kennedy Agyapong's candidacy

The former deputy Finance Ministers' endorsement comes on the heels of growing support for Agyapong's candidacy from various quarters within the party, especially from the grassroots level.

It was reported earlier that 268 former Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) have reportedly pledged their support for Agyapong in the New Patriotic Party's flagbearer race.

This endorsement is viewed as a significant boost to the six-term Member of Parliament's campaign for the NPP flagbearer position.

The declaration was made following a courtesy visit by the 268 former MMDCEs to his private office in Accra on Thursday, June 19, 2025.

The former MMDCEs, who served during the Akufo-Addo administration, believe that Ken Agyapong, with his extensive experience and leadership qualities, is well-equipped to lead the NPP to victory in 2028.

Ken Agyapong vows to break Nkrumah's record

YEN.com.gh reported earlier that Kennedy Agyapong vowed to surpass Kwame Nkrumah’s legacy if elected President of Ghana.

The former Assin Central MP and NPP flagbearer aspirant said the country needed a bold and pragmatic leader to transform the nation.

Agyapong believed his eight-year plan would exceed the achievements made during Nkrumah’s nine-year reign at the helm of Ghana.
