30th July 2025 marks 33 years of marriage for the couple, who tied the knot in 1992.

How John and Lordina Mahama met

John and Lordina Mahama first met in secondary school. They both attended Ghana Secondary School in Tamale, where their friendship gradually blossomed into a deeper connection, eventually leading to marriage.

Their relationship has stood the test of time, spanning over three decades. In July 2017, the Mahamas celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary with a private vow renewal ceremony in Accra.

Five years later, in July 2022, they marked their 30th anniversary with a public celebration at the Accra Polo Club.

Lordina a pillar in Mahama's political journey

Lordina Mahama has been by John Mahama’s side throughout his political journey, from his early days in public service through roles as an assembly member, Member of Parliament, Minister, Vice President, and ultimately President of Ghana.

After winning the 2024 general election, Mahama referred to Lordina as his “pillar of life.” Both John and Lordina Mahama worship at the Assemblies of God Church in Ghana.

Although John Mahama was born and raised in the Presbyterian Church, he later joined the Assemblies of God after marriage.

John and Lordina Mahama's children

The couple has five children: Farida, Shafik, Sharaf, Shahid, and Jesse.

While it is not officially known whether John Mahama joined the Assemblies of God Church because of Lordina, their shared faith continues to be a cornerstone of their union.

Sharaf Mahama is a FIFA licensed agent and also the CEO of Legacy Rise, a sports management and promotion company that helps identify and nurture talent from Ghana and across Africa.

Farida Mahama is very active on social media and often accompanies her father to public events. Recently she accompanied the president to the Accra Sports Stadium to watch the football game between Kumasi Asante Kotoko and Accra Hearts of Oak played on Sunday, July 6, 2025.

She also runs a charitable foundation, the Serenity Community Club (SCC), which helps underprivileged sections of society.
