Dr Bawumia Visits Hawa Koomson To Check on Her Health: “See Her Room”

The 2024 flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, visited the former Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture Development, Hawa Koomson, to check on her health following the Ablekuma North incident.

Some thugs battered Hawa Koomson during the rerun of elections in selected polling stations in the Ablekuma North Constituency on Friday, June 4, 2025, in what observers have described as violence directly related to political competition for the hotly contested seat.
In a post on Facebook, the former Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya East Constituency said she was grateful to Dr Mahamudu Bawumia for checking on her.

He visited her on Sunday, July 13, 2025, two days after the incident.
“This morning, H. E. Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and his team visited me at my residence to check on my health after I was brutally assaulted by thugs during the Ablekuma North Rerun. My family and I are extremely grateful for this thoughtful gesture.”

Some people condemned the act, insisting that politically instigated violence has no place in the Ghanaian democracy.
Hawa Koomson's attackers not from Ablekuma North
The Member of Parliament-elect for Ablekuma North, Ewurabena Aubynn, has broken her silence on the assault on former Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture Development, Mavis Hawa Koomson, during the recent parliamentary election rerun.
Speaking to Adom FM on Monday, July 14, 2025, the MP-elect, Aubynn, first condemned the assault on the former MP.
Delving into details, the MP-elect alleged that intelligence proved the perpetrators were not residents of the constituency.

She also added that Hawa Koomson had issues with certain individuals who saw her presence in the constituency as an opportunity to exact revenge.
“I had information that in the past, she allegedly had a problem with some people. I also heard it might be an attack of vengeance. But I can tell you on authority that the perpetrators are not from Ablekuma North,” she added.
Police on manhunt for Ablekuma North election offenders
The Accra Regional Police Command, in a statement, has vowed to apprehend those behind the violence during the Ablekuma North parliamentary election rerun.
The statement, issued on July 12, urged persons with information that could lead to the arrest of the perpetrators to contact the Police.
“The Regional Command is taking steps to identify the perpetrators, and anyone found to have engaged in acts of violence, intimidation, or breach of the peace will be arrested and taken through the due process of law. The Accra Regional Police Command wishes to encourage anyone with information on the persons involved in these incidents to contact the Police through emergency numbers 18555 or 191 to assist with ongoing investigations.”

Basintale to reward man who tussled Koomson
YEN.com.gh reported that Malik Basintale commented on Hawa Koomson's woes during the election rerun at Ablekuma North.
The politician earlier stated that he did not know about the attack on Hawa Koomson.
However, he later singled out one of the attackers for a reward in a post on social media.
