A Ghanaian man expressed his frustration with local television stations for airing pirated Nigerian (Nollywood) movies, specifically targeting Unity TV.

The man pointed out that Unity TV was broadcasting a film; "Prince of Peace" by popular Nigerian actor Nosa Rex just six hours after it was released on YouTube, without any authorization or compensation for the filmmakers.

In the trending video shared on TikTok, the man, who was visibly upset, argued that this practice disrespects the hard work and financial investment made by Nigerian filmmakers.

YEN.com.gh understands that over the years, several Ghanaian and filmmakers, including Mercy Johnson, Xandy Kamel, and Omoni Oboli, among others have accused certain Ghanaian television stations of airing their movies without permission.

Man reacts to Unity TV piracy claim

He explained that pirating movies not only harms the Nigerian film industry but also undermines the value of intellectual property.

According to him, such actions were contributing to the negative sentiment some Nigerians have towards Ghanaians.

In the video, the Ghanaian also called on Sam George, the Minister of Communication, to step in and address the issue.

He urged the politician to take a stand against the piracy of Nigerian films in Ghana.

The video has sparked mixed reactions on social media.
