Asantehemaa Nana Konadu Yiadom III Speaks With Frail Voice as She Advises Queen Mothers in Old Video

Tributes continue to pour in for the late matriarch of the Asante Kingdom, Nana Konadu Yiadom III.
A video of the Asantehemaa fulfilling her motherly duties to some queenmothers has emerged on social media after Otumfuo Osei Tutu II confirmed her death on August 11 at an Asanteman Council meeting.

The video was recorded when the Association of Chop Bar Operators and Bush Meat Sellers introduced new Queens to the Asantehemaa in June this year.
In the video, the Asantehemaa was captured advising the newly enstooled Chopbarhemaa, who appeared to have inherited the new role from her mother.

Nana Konadu Yiadom III, who died at 98 years old, charged the newly enstooled queen mother to respect and honour her leaders, just as her mother had done before her.
With a frail voice, the queen mother briefly prayed for her junior and said:
"Respect your elders. You stand to gain nothing if you don't respect your elders."
The video, which has surfaced on social media after Nana Konadu Yiadom's death, has got Ghanaians reflecting on her legacy.
Scores of netizens admitted that they had never seen or heard the late queen mother speaking.
Who is late Nana Konadu Yiadom III?
Nana Konadu Yiadom III, who was the king's biological sister, was enstooled as the 14th Asantehemaa in 2017.
She succeeded her mother and predecessor, Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem II, who died on November 15, 2016, in her sleep, aged 109.
In the Asante hierarchy, the queen mother, second in authority only to the Asantehene, plays a crucial role in regulating the legitimacy of successors to the Golden Stool and ensuring adherence to customs and traditions.

Her influence extends to matters of succession, advising the Asantehene, and even having the power to depose him in certain circumstances.
Otumfuo has declared her one-week observance to be held on Thursday, August 21, 2025.

Appiah Stadium storms Manhyia after Asantehemaa's death
Earlier, YEN.com.gh also reported that Appiah Stadium had been spotted at the Manhyia Palace shortly after the Asantehemaa's passing was confirmed.
The political commentator got emotional as he spoke about the big loss the Ashanti Kingdom faced due to Nana Konadu Yiadom III's demise at the age of 98.
In an interview, Appiah Stadium rebuked the reporter for not wearing the appropriate attire to attend the meeting, to match the sad mood at Manhyia Palace.
