Flying Officer Twum-Ampadu’s Wife Holds Back Tears, Looks Heartbroken at Vigil

The wife of Flying Officer Manaen Twum-Ampadu, Naval Lt Ewuradwoa Kumi-Kyeremah, fought back tears at a vigil held in honour of the fallen airman and his two comrades.

Flying Officer Manaen Twum-Ampadu, Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah all died in a helicopter crash on Wednesday, August 6, 2025.
They were operating a Ghana Armed Forces Z-9 helicopter, flying five high-ranking government officials from Accra to Obuasi to attend a conference on illegal mining.
The helicopter tragically crashed into the Sikaman Forest in the Adansi Afuokrom District of the Ashanti Region, killing all eight people on board.
Aside from the three airmen, the five other fatalities included Defence Minister Dr Edward Omane Boamah and Environment Minister, Murtala Mohammed, Deputy National Security Coordinator Limuna Muniru, former Ashanti Regional Minister Dr Samuel Sarpong, and former Parliamentary Candidate for Obuasi East, Samuel Aboagye.
The tragedy sparked national mourning with many government functionaries at the Jubilee House shedding tears upon confirmation of the deaths.
Twum-Ampadu’s wife weeps at vigil
The tragedy sparked a period of nationwide mourning and frantic preparations to honour the fallen.
A candlelight vigil was organised for the night of Friday, August 8, at the Takoradi Airport, as all three deceased airmen flew out of the Takoradi Air Force base.
Family members, friends, colleagues and loved ones of the fallen soldiers attended the vigil.
During the night, photos of Flying Officer Manaen Twum-Ampadu’s wife, Naval Lt Ewuradwoa Kumi-Kyeremah, showed her completely devastated over the loss of her husband.
According to reports, Kumi-Kyeremeh serves as a psychologist at the 2 Garrison.

All About Manaen Twum-Ampadu
The late Flying Officer was a graduate of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi, graduating in 2017 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Geography.
After completing his degree, Twum Ampadu enlisted in the Ghana Armed Forces, where he was commissioned as a Flying Officer.
The late officer and his two deceased colleagues - Peter Anala and Ernest Nii Addo Mensah - all flew out of the Takoradi Air Force base.
Ernest Addo Mensah's last words surface
Previously, YEN.com.gh reported that deceased Air Force Officer Ernest Addo Mensah's last words surfaced online after his death.
Sergeant Addo Mensah was one of three military officers killed in a helicopter crash near Obuasi that also killed five high-ranking government officials.
Following his death, a poignant message he shared on his WhatsApp status early in the day of the crash stirred conversation online.
