General Superintendent of the Assemblies of God, Ghana, Reverend Dr Stephen Y. Wengam, has left many puzzled after he reacted to the helicopter crash that claimed the lives of eight people on Wednesday, August 6, with a bold new claim.

Rev Wengam said the decision by the President not to attend the Assemblies of God event on August 6, 2025, did not sit well with the First Lady, who insisted that they would come.
He said it was for this reason that the Ghanaian leader did not travel on the day of the helicopter crash.

Reactions to pastor's claims about helicopter crash
Some people who reacted to the video shared varied opinions on the matter, with many expressing joy that the President was spared.
@GhanaSocialUni stated:
"I see people on the timeline always saying that religion is Africa’s problem, questioning why you are in church on a weekday, and all that nonsense. If President John Mahama hadn’t gone to church on a weekday yesterday, he would have been killed in the helicopter crash."
@Doriginalsource indicated:
"The President has a good heart, and with that, every evil that comes his way shall not prosper."
@lockD_In5 added:
"I don’t think this thing ought to be made public. Now, the question is: do the other ministers who died not serve God enough? Desist."
@JuicyCFC stated:
"I really don’t get the main motive of the pastors when they come out to say these things. We know God is working through y’all, but do you have to come out to blow your own horns?"
