Ghanaian media personality Captain Smart is trending following his recent statement about Ghanaian highlife legend Daddy Lumba.

Addressing the media after visiting the residence of the late musician to sympathise with the family, the Onua Maakye host suggested that if there was any way to bring Daady Lumba back to life, it should be done.

Captain Smart on Daddy Lumba living at East Legon

Speaking on the Onua Maakye Show on Onua TV on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, Captain Smart disclosed that the late musician confided in him, expressing regret about relocating to East Legon, an area reserved for the affluent.

According to Captain Smart, Daddy Lumba told him that his desire to relocate from Tantra Hill to East Legon was based on the preconceived notion that he would be happier.

"He told me plainly that he thought I was going to East Legon so I would be happy, but I knew I never relocated. Don't think that anyone who lives in East Legon is happy," Captain Smart recalled.

Captain Smart then concluded by telling Ghanaians to note that not everyone who lives in East Legon is enjoying life.

The outspoken broadcaster made this remark when the manager of Daddy Lumba appeared on the show as a guest.

Sokoohemaa meets Daddy Lumba's widow

Ghanaian media personality Sokoohemaa visited the residence of Daddy Lumba to offer condolences to the grieving widow of the highlife legend.

A video showed the moment Sokoohemaa presented flowers to Odo Broni, who was dressed in mourning clothes, looking very sorrowful.

The media personality then engaged her in a brief conversation where she offered words of encouragement to the grieving widow.

Details of Lumba’s demise

Daddy Lumba died on July 26, 2025, at the age of 60 after a short illness.

The highlife legend was sent to the Bank Hospital in Cantonments, where he died shortly after arriving.

He underwent surgery to repair injuries to his spine, but later complications made life difficult, leaving him bedridden for significant parts of his final years.

The award-winning highlife legend composed over 200 songs and released over 30 albums during his illustrious four-decade career.

Daddy Lumba also nurtured many great musicians, including Dada KD and Ofori Amponsah.

Ghanaians mourn Daddy Lumba's passing

Known figures, in a show of solidarity, have thronged the residence of the late musician to offer their condolences to the grieving family.

Notable among them are Nana Akufo-Addo, Osei Kwame Despite, and Kwaku Oteng, among others.

Wontumi mourns Daddy Lumba

Earlier, YEN.com.gh reported that Chairman Wontumi got tongues wagging after he visited the residence of Daddy Lumba to pay his respects.

The NPP Ashanti Regional Chairman sympathised with the grieving family and opened up about his relationship with the late singer.

He then sang part of his favourite song by the late musician, evoking a lot of laughter.
