What is Daddy Lumba's Me Mpaebo?
Me Mpaebo, which translates to My Prayer, is one of the legend's most heartfelt songs. The track appears on his 1990 album Obi Ate Meso Buo, a project that helped establish his versatility beyond highlife into gospel-inspired music.
In Me Mpaebo, Daddy Lumba offered a sincere and emotional prayer to God, pleading for mercy, help, guidance, and protection during life’s challenges.
The chorus, which includes the line 'Tie me sufrɛ ma me mpaebɔ nnuru W’anim' (meaning 'Hear my cry and let my prayer reach Your presence'), shows the level of faith he had and his expectations from God during trying times.

In the song, he told the story of Nsuta Nii Bbaa Yaa Tiwaa, whom he claimed had no child and prayed that just as God showed mercy to Hannah and Sarah, He should be merciful and grant her a child.
Who is the lady Daddy Lumba referenced?
Yaa Tiwaa hails from Nsuta, Daddy Lumba's maternal hometown, and is the legendary musician's sister-in-law. Her name roughly translates to 'Yaa Tiwaa from Nsuta'.
For decades, she lived without bearing any child of her own despite nursing hopes of having one. He found her story touching and decided to present her case to God in his song.
Speaking in an interview, Yaa Tiwaa, who seemed at peace with her condition, said she was okay because even if she had been given a child, she might not have been able to take good care of it.

"Guys, let’s come to think of it, this woman never gave birth, so assuming she is dead, like her name won't be in existence because of no children. Now Lumba used her name for a good, reasonable song, and his name will forever remain in this world till the end of time woooow."
