Meet Madam Acheampong, Daddy Lumba's School Teacher Who Helped Nurture His Music Career

Charles Kwadwo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba, is a music icon celebrated in Ghana and globally.
The famous musician released hundreds of hit songs before his unfortunate demise on Saturday, July 26, 2025.

Before becoming a music legend, Daddy Lumba had some special people who groomed him, including his mother, Ama Saah and a prominent teacher, Madam Acheampong, who helped him realise his singing talent.
Mama Acheampong was a teacher in Daddy Lumba's Senior High School, Juaben SHS, located in the Ejisu-Juaben District of the Ashanti Region in Ghana.
She taught them Agric Science in school, and during their engagements, she discovered Lumba's talent.
In an old interview which has surfaced, Mama Acheampong opened up about the genesis of her relationship with Lumba.
"I started the school choir in 1976, but in 1980, I travelled to study abroad. When I returned, I encountered Lumba in the school choir. He was a handsome, slim young man, and when I asked his name, he told me Charles Kwadwo Fosu," she said.
She recalled that Lumba was a member of a popular singing group in school and always mesmerised students and even teachers with his soothing voice and performances.
"They were four, and they sang like an SDA choir, but Lumba's voice stood out. When he sang, you could easily identify him," she noted.
Mama Acheampong noted that Lumba was very creative and often composed new songs. She recalled how Lumba and his team's songs opened doors for them back then. The veteran teacher stated that the school choir were gifted robes due to their great talent.

Mama Acheampong claimed she nurtured Lumba's talent by giving him the platform and always encouraging him to sing.
She also recalled how Lumba and Theresa Abeberesse's bond grew stronger during their days in the school choir.
"Lumba was handsome and Theresa was very beautiful, so I always wanted both of them to stand in front so that they would become the centre of attraction," she noted.
Beyond that, Mama Acheampong opened up about how intelligent Lumba was and his interest in sports. She recalled that Lumba was a good athlete.

Daddy Lumba passes away, breaking hearts
Daddy Lumba passed away at the age of 60 on Saturday, July 26, 2025. He reportedly fell ill and died at the Bank Hospital in Accra.
Scores of celebrities have rushed to his East Legon residence to express their condolences to the grieving family.

Family issues warning to Lumba's widow
Earlier, YEN.com.gh reported that Daddy Lumba's family got tongues wagging in the wake of the musician's demise.
In an interview, the head of Daddy Lumba's family admonished Priscilla Ofori Atta, Lumba's widow, to recognise that the deceased hailed from a family after she ostensibly failed to officially receive a delegation, claiming she did not know them.
He stated that any attempts by her to go on with the funeral of the late musician without their involvement would not work.
