In a viral post, the bride expressed overwhelming joy as she finally tied the knot with the man she had stood beside through thick and thin.
She pleaded with her family to accept the items brought in by her groom and his family for her traditional wedding.
Traditional marriage in Ghanaian culture
In most Ghanaian cultures, the traditional marriage precedes the white wedding.
It is the most recognised and respected form of marriage across Ghanaian communities; as such, some people choose to have only a traditional marriage.
Traditional marriage is not just between two individuals, but two families. The groom’s family formally asks for the bride’s hand, showing respect and readiness to care for her.
Knocking is the first step, where the groom’s family visits the bride’s home to express interest and seek permission to marry.
They usually bring a bottle of alcohol, money for the bride’s parents, and a spokesperson to present their intentions.

After the groom's family's visit, the bride’s family provides a list of required items that the groom’s family must bring.
This often includes bride price/dowry, drinks (such as schnapps, wine, or soft drinks), clothes or cloth for the bride and her mother, jewellery, kitchenware, a handbag, and cash gifts for family members (such as the mother, father, brothers, or uncles), among other items.
Ghanaian lady begs her family to receive items
During her traditional wedding, a member of the bride's family asked if she wanted them to accept the items brought for her marriage, as custom demanded.
Without hesitation, she said yes, stating that seven years of dating have not been easy.
Scenes from the event show the lady beaming with joy, surrounded by friends and family who gathered to witness their union.

The couple's white wedding followed their traditional marriage. The bride was clad in a beautiful white wedding gown, while her husband also wore a white suit over a pair of black trousers.
Counsellor shares tips on how to sustain relationship
Speaking exclusively to YEN.com.gh, a Ghanaian counsellor, Seyram Avortri, shared tips on how to sustain a relationship which can lead to marriage.
"Most ladies today tend to focus primarily on money in relationships, but money alone is not the foundation for a successful marriage or relationship. When a woman’s main focus becomes money, she risks reducing herself to an object that can be bought," she said.

"In such cases, the man may treat her however he pleases, because she is seen more as a transaction than a partner. Relationships built on that foundation rarely last. However, when a woman enters a relationship genuinely seeking love, care and is willing to reciprocate that love and commitment, the relationship stands a much better chance of thriving," he said.
Lady's plea to accept items triggers reactions
Netizens who saw the video of the lady pleading with her family to accept the items for her tradition expressed mixed reactions in the comments section. While some congratulated her, others criticised her sense of fashion.
