Collins Adomako-Mensah, Member of Parliament for Afigya Kwabre and a close friend of the late Ernest Yaw Kumi, Member of Parliament for Akwatia, has appealed to Ghanaians to remember the family of the late MP in prayers

Speaking in an interview on Adom FM, the MP recounted the deeply moving moment when he met the widow of Ernest Yaw Kumi, seated close to the remains of her late husband at the hospital, hoping for a miracle.

The Member of Parliament for Sissala West has raised serious health concerns associated with being a parliamentarian in the country.

Speaking as a panellist on Channel One TV, Mohammed Sukparu, who was mourning the loss of his colleague Ernest Yaw Kumi, said the stress of being an MP is so intense that it can lead to high blood pressure.

He alleged that between 70 to 80 per cent of Ghana's parliamentarians were hypertensive, and even opened up on how some MPs had died.

“Ernest was in the chamber on Thursday, and he went to Takoradi on Saturday. He returned on Sunday and was preparing for his moot court yesterday. He had just finished writing his final exams at the Ghana Law School. He died yesterday morning,” he added.

Akufo-Addo mourns Ernest Yaw Kumi

Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has mourned the passing of Ernest Yaw Kumi, the Member of Parliament for Akwatia.

He took to Facebook on Monday, July 7, expressing that Ernest Kumi, who was adored and cherished by all, was no more. He said he was “devastated” upon hearing the news, highlighting Kumi’s popularity among party supporters and his positive standing among constituents and acquaintances alike.

“I am devastated to learn of the passing of Ernest Yaw Kumi, Member of Parliament for Akwatia Constituency. The legislator was adored and loved by party faithful and cherished by all who knew or shared acquaintances with him.”

Akufo-Addo then extended his heartfelt condolences to Kumi’s grieving family, the Parliament of Ghana, and the residents of Akwatia.

“My deepest sympathies go to his family, the House, and the good people of Akwatia Constituency, at this unimaginably difficult time.”

He concluded his tribute with a prayerful message, wishing Kumi eternal peace in the afterlife.

“May he find peaceful rest in the Bosom of the Almighty, until the Last Day of the Resurrection, when we shall all meet again.”
