Cardinal Peter Turkson has arrived in Ghana for the first time after he took part in the conclave in Rome that saw the election of a new Pope.

The Cardinal was given a welcome befitting his status when he arrived at Kotoka International Airport on Monday, June 30, 2025.

The purpose of his visit is to grace the National Day of Prayer & Thanksgiving slated for July 1, 2025.

A video of his arrival, which has gone viral sighted by YEN.com.gh on the TikTok page of Tinababy Gh Blog, showing the adorable moment when the Cardinal was welcomed at the airport by a woman who presented him with a flower.

Other dignitaries on hand to welcome the former Archbishop of Cape Coast back home included the Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Ahmed Ibrahim; Elvis Afriyie Ankrah; Prophet Agyeman Prempeh; and other dignitaries.

National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving

This year's National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving, set to be held on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, will be the first of its kind.

President John Dramani Mahama said the purpose of the day is to urge Ghanaians to reflect and thank God for His goodness and mercies toward the nation.

The theme for the program is "Reset, Reflect, and Renew for National Prosperity."

A Christian service will be held at the forecourt of the State House, Accra, led by Cardinal Peter Appiah Turkson from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM.

A Muslim service will be held at the National Mosque, Kanda, Accra, led by the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Dr. Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, from 12:30 PM to 2:00 PM.

The prayers will be held across all 16 regions and 261 districts of Ghana.

Aglow International pray against Dumsor

Earlier, YEN.com.gh reported that Aglow International Ghana got tongues wagging after it held a monthly intercessory prayer for Ghana on Saturday, May 17, 2025.

A video making the rounds showed the National Prayer Director of Aglow International, Gifty Afenyi-Dadzie, urging the women to pray for the privatisation process and power outages in the country.
