A 20-year-old woman, Afia Darkowaa, popularly known as Cindy, tragically lost her life following an accident at Bremang UGC in Kumasi, the capital of the Ashanti Region of Ghana, on Saturday, June 28, 2025.

According to reports, a parked truck reportedly went on the loose and crashed into a shop and a nearby restaurant, killing a young lady instantly.
A video from the accident scene showing Bremang UGC residents and passersby witnessing the severe damage caused by the accident emerged on social media.
Eyewitness accounts stated that the victim, Afia Darkowaa, an apprentice at a beauty salon, was off duty but had been called in by her supervisor to take charge of the shop when she met her unfortunate demise.
The driver, who was heading to Bremang from Bosuom, Pankrono, had reportedly parked his truck by the roadside to use the nearest washroom before continuing his journey.

However, he failed to release the handbrake, leading to the car rolling freely with the engine still running and crashing into her supervisor's container shop while she was inside.
The deceased's remains have reportedly been deposited at the morgue, with police conducting investigations into the unfortunate accident.
Before her unfortunate demise, the late Afia Darkowaa, a young and vibrant woman, was an ardent Ghanaian TikToker.
Her passing has evoked sadness among many of her loved ones on social media and among residents in the Bremang UGC area, who are grieving over her loss.

Concerns for road safety in Ghana
This tragic incident highlights the ongoing concerns about road safety in Ghana, where speeding, poor vehicle maintenance, and hazardous road conditions continue to contribute to deadly accidents.
According to the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA), Ghana recorded 2,276 road traffic deaths in 2023, marking a decline from the 2,373 fatalities reported in 2022. Road crash incidents also dropped slightly, from 14,135 in 2022 to 13,980 in 2023.
However, data from January to September 2024 shows a concerning rise in fatalities, with 1,817 deaths compared to 1,677 during the same period in 2023.
VIP bus accident claims several lives
In another story reported by YEN.com.gh, an accident involving a VIP bus and a cargo truck on the Accra-Kumasi Highway claimed many lives on June 25, 2025.
Others who survived were also admitted to the hospital after the unfortunate incident that happened near Oframase, close to Nkawkaw in the Kwahu West Municipality.
Eyewitness accounts noted that the VIP bus collided with an oncoming cargo truck loaded with flour on the road, with videos from the accident scene surfacing on social media.
Emergency teams, including personnel from the Ghana Police Service’s Motor Traffic and Transport Directorate and the National Road Safety Authority, responded swiftly to the scene.
Many of the injured were admitted to the Nkawkaw Holy Family Hospital and other nearby health facilities, where they are receiving treatment.
