The children of Dr Edward Omane Boamah read a heartwarming tribute in honour of their late father, whose life was cut short in the tragic helicopter crash on August 6, 2025.

The young children of the late Defence Minister took to the podium of Christ the King Church to share the fondest memories of their father during the mass vigil held for the victims of the crash.

"Even with the weight of national duties on your shoulders, you always made time for us. You called us every day when you travelled. You never missed that important moment. And when you couldn't be there in person, you made us feel you were right before us," their tribute read.

Dr Omane Boamah was aboard the Ghana Air Force Harbin Z-9 helicopter when it crashed at Adansi Sikaman, in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region.

All eight members aboard the helicopter died when it went down in a forested area.

The fatalities included Dr Alhaji Murtala Muhammed, MP for Tamale Central and Minister for Environment, Science & Technology, Alhaji Muniru Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator, and Samuel Aboagye, a former parliamentary candidate.

Police block roads for state funeral

Earlier, YEN.com.gh reported that the Ghana Police Service had shared details of the state funeral of the August 6 helicopter crash victims.

In a statement, the police urged motorists to look out for diversions for traffic from La, Labone, and Osu on 28th February Road, among others.

Only vehicles with approved windscreen affixed entry stickers would be allowed to enter the Black Star Square arena and use parking spots.
