The first set of footage from the Independence Square, where the state funeral for the victims of the recent helicopter crash near Obuasi will be held, has emerged online.

In videos sighted by YEN.com.gh, military officers were captured undertaking drills ahead of the national event tomorrow, August 15, in Accra.

Some of the officers were seen offloading caskets wrapped with the national flag off a military truck at the Indepence Square.

The officers appeared to be engaged in a dress rehearsal for the state funeral as the state prepares to bid farewell to the three military officers and five top government officials who died in the helicopter crash.

The videos have hiked up the sad mood of many Ghanaians as the country mourns after the national tragedy.

Who died in Ghana army helicopter crash?

The August 6 helicopter crash killed eight people, including two ministers.

The passengers were aboard a Ghana Air Force Harbin Z-9 helicopter when it crashed at Adansi Sikaman, in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region.

They were attending the official launch of the Responsible Cooperative Mining and Skills Development Programme (rCOMSDEP) in Obuasi before the tragic incident.

All eight passengers, comprising three military officers and five top government officials who were aboard the helicopter, died.

The fatalities included Dr Edward Omane Boamah, Minister for Defence, Dr Alhaji Murtala Muhammed, MP for Tamale Central and Minister for Environment, Science & Technology, Alhaji Muniru Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator, and Samuel Aboagye, Former Parliamentary Candidate.

Police blocks roads ahead of state funeral

The Ghana Police Service has released a list of roads that would be closed and diverted, as well as parking areas for attendees of the funeral, as reported by YEN.com.gh.

Motorists have been urged to look out for diversions for traffic from La, Labone and Osu on the 28th February, among others. Only vehicles with approved windscreen affixed entry stickers will be allowed to enter the Black Star Square arena and park there.

The police, in a statement, said the arrangements are to ensure public safety and smooth traffic management during the solemn state ceremony.
