A devastating accident has occurred involving members of the Bechem Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) District who were returning from a camp meeting.

The incident, which happened on Sunday, August 10, 2025, along reportedly resulted in the tragic loss of two lives, with several others sustaining critical injuries.

According to reports, the accident occurred when the vehicle carrying the church members collided with another car.

A video circulating on social media showed the vehicles involved in the accident mangled beyond recognition.

The injured have been rushed to a nearby hospital where they are currently receiving treatment for their critical conditions.

Camp meetings are significant events in the SDA community, focusing on spiritual growth, revival, and fellowship.

15 Saviour Church Members die in accident

This incident is the second time a group of church members have died in a tragic car accident.

Earlier, it was reported that at least 15 members of the Saviour Church of Ghana died in a fatal accident on the Atwedie stretch of the Kumasi–Accra highway.

According to Citi News, the crash occurred on July 28, 2025, when a vehicle transporting the church members collided head-on with a fuel tanker travelling in the opposite direction.

The victims were returning to Obogu in the Asante Akyem South Municipality after attending the church’s annual meeting in the Eastern Region.

Police, fire officers, and other emergency services visited the scene to manage the situation and conveyed the bodies to a nearby morgue.

Emergency teams from the Juaso Motor Traffic and Transport Directorate (MTTD), the Ambulance Service, and the Ghana National Fire Service from Konongo and Juaso responded promptly to assisted the victims, who were aged between 4 and 21 years.

Road crashes surge in Ghana

Road crashes have increased year-on-year in 2025, with Ghana recording 7,289 incidents and 1,504 fatalities between January and June.

The 1,504 deaths mark a rise from 1,237 in the first half of 2024 and 1,095 in the same period of 2023.

These figures are based on provisional data from the National Road Safety Authority.

According to the data, 12,354 vehicles were involved in crashes, leading to 8,300 non-fatal injuries.

In addition, 1,301 pedestrians were reported to have been knocked down nationwide.

Two dead after school bus crash

In a related development, YEN.com.gh reported that a school bus transporting pupils from Ben Kunadu SDA Basic School in the Asante Akyem Municipality was involved in a deadly accident.

The crash happened on March 28, 2025, between Adukrom and Somanya, claiming two lives.

Eastern Regional Minister Rita Akosua Awatey was present at the scene and assisted in the rescue efforts.
