Omane Boamah Death: Mother of Late Defence Minister Visited by Asiedu Nketia, Other NDC Bigwigs
- The government has formally informed the late Defence Minister Edward Omane Boamah's family of his death
- The Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah and the NDC Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, led the delegation
- Boamah died alongside seven other persons after the army helicopter they were travelling in crashed in the Adansi Akrofuom District on August 6
A delegation led by the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah and the NDC Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, visited the mother of Edward Omane Boamah in Koforidua in the Eastern Region to officially inform the family of the tragic passing of their son in a helicopter crash.
The delegation included Baba Jamal, Joyce Bawa Mogtari, Stan Dogbe, Health Minister Mintah Akando, among others.

Party faithfuls, family members, friends and sympathisers also gathered to mourn Boamah's death.
After nearly one hour of a closed-door meeting with the family, the delegation came out looking devastated, broken and saddened.
The Abusuapayin of the family, Rtd Sargent Isaac F. Omane, could not hold back his tears when YEN.com.gh spoke to him.
“I first heard it from people who had their information from social media. She [Boamah's mother] is broken, speechless and dumbfounded."
"We didn’t believe it at first until the delegation arrived. Our beloved child is gone just like that."
The Municipal Chief Executive of New Juabeng North, Samuel Adongo, was also broken by the news.
“Today is not a good day for us, but God knows it better. The Eastern Region has lost a giant - one that helps the party in the region," said Adongo.
The Municipal Chief Executive of New Juabeng South, Ransford Owusu Boakye, also paid tribute to Boamah.
“Omane helps everyone irrespective of their political affiliation. We have lost a big man - a man who cares about his people and his party. He is involved in all activities of the party. The star of the East. God knows better.”

Boamah's mother has since been transported to Accra to join the late minister's widow.
Who else died in the helicopter crash?
The four other civilians who died in the crash were identified as Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Deputy National Security Coordinator Limuna Muniru, Former Ashanti Regional Minister Dr. Samuel Sarpong and Former Parliamentary Candidate for Obuasi East Samuel Aboagye.
The army personnel who died in the crash were identified as Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.

They were travelling to Obuasi for an anti-illegal mining event when the aircraft crashed.
The crash occurred in the Adansi Akrofuom District. The Ghana Armed Forces Z‑9 helicopter was en route to Obuasi. Authorities are now investigating the cause of the crash.

YEN.com.gh reported that President John Mahama declared three days of national mourning beginning Thursday, August 7, 2025, in honour of the eight Ghanaians who lost their lives in a tragic military helicopter crash on Wednesday.
In a statement, the Presidency said all official activities and engagements of the president for the remainder of the week have been suspended.
