16 Youth Buried in One Pit After Fatal Church Trip Ends in Juaso Collision

Sixteen members of the Saviour Church who perished in a ghastly road accident on Monday, July 28, 2025, have been buried bringing the painful chapter to a close as the community continues to mourn their loved ones.

According to reports, all 16 deceased persons were laid to rest in a mass burial ceremony held in Obogu, a town in the Ashanti Region.

Videos from the burial ceremony show that all the victims were buried in one large pit with members of the community covered in black and red funeral cloths, with deep sadness felt throughout the town.

The funeral was attended by hundreds, including families, students, government representatives, and sympathisers.

Obogu community in mourning

The Obogu community is grieving what many describe as the darkest day in the history of the Saviour Church.

Elders, chiefs, and pastors are offering support to the bereaved families and urging drivers to remain vigilant on the roads and avoid complacency.

How the Juaso Accident happened

The sad incident occurred at around 2:30 PM on Monday, July 28, 2025 along the Juaso section of the Accra–Kumasi highway when a Ford Transit mini-bus transporting the youth clashed head-on with a fuel tanker.

Eyewitnesses said the tanker driver lost control while overtaking another vehicle.

The impact of the collision wrecked the bus completely. Several bodies were trapped requiring intervention from emergency responders and residents who worked for hours to retrieve the deceased from the wreckage.

The victims were coming back from a youth retreat on the weekend when the unfortunate incident occurred.

Most of them were between the ages of 10 and 25, all belonging to the youth ministry of the Obogu branch of the Saviour Church. Among the victims were two children of the head pastor.

Four members survived the accident and were rushed to the Juaso Government Hospital, where they remain in critical condition.

Politicians and community leaders have since called on tougher enforcement of regulations to curb road carnage which has been on the rise in recent months.
