Boasiako was recently transferred to the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) after being detained at the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) in connection with an ongoing criminal investigation.

Boasiako is also under a second strand of investigation because of a larger international organised crime scheme.

He had previously been charged with illegal mining-related offences by the police.

On Friday, May 23, 2025, national security operatives stormed Boasiako's residence in Kumasi to execute a search warrant.

Boasiako has been under more scrutiny after the government revoked the license of his mining company, Akonta Mining Limited.

The state accused Akonta Mining of being engaged in illegal mining.

Boasiako has been unable to fulfil his GH¢50 million bail conditions since his arrest.

Bawumia said he was told Boasiako would not be brought out because of the nature of the crowd.

He also expressed his dissapointment at his inability to meet Boasiako.

"Unfortunately, we are here, but the NIB and EOCO feel that the crowd is such that they are unable to bring him here at the moment and that they would have to make proper arrangements to bring him so that we can see him and we are going to continue to make those arrangement."

The application, filed on May 30, 2025, is challenging the GH¢50 million bail, which his legal team argues is excessive and intended to prevent his release.

The motion, was submitted by Marfo & Associates, the law firm representing the bealegured regional party chairman.

The application requested that the court to reconsider the bail terms based on the grounds outlined in the accompanying affidavit.

The court is scheduled to hear the motion on June 3, 2025, at 9:00 am.
