Ghana Police Launch Manhunt After 2 Officers Were Killed In Upper East

The Ghana Police Service has launched a manhunt for the robbers who shot and killed two police officers at Poyamirea near Binduri in the Upper East Region.
The attack on the Ghana Police Service officers occurred on April 13.

A police statement said the officers, who were in plain clothes, were travelling on a private motorbike from Bongo to Binduri when they were ambushed.
The attackers reportedly got away the vehicle after shooting the officers.
The Ghana Police Service expressed its condolences to the bereaved officers and assured the public that it was working to apprehend the attackers.
“We would like to assure the general public that the perpetrators of this heinous crime will be arrested and brought to face justice; and we will surely get them."
Also on April 13, an unidentified man was shot and his body was burned, together with a motorcycle he was riding.
Joy News reported that the killing was linked to the violence in Bawku. The tension has spilt over to neighbouring areas such as Pusiga and Binduri.
These incidents came less than 24 hours after the Inspector General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, wrapped up his visit to the region after an escalation of violence in Bawku.
The Inspector General of Police was in Bawku following two days of escalating violence in the troubled district of Ghana.
Mahama Ayariga's home attacked in Bawku
The recent tensions in Bawku saw some residents vandalise and set fire to the residence of Bawku Central MP Mahama Ayariga on April 10.
The incident occurred amid two days of unrest linked to the town’s long-standing chieftaincy dispute.
The recent violence saw police and some residents clash during which one person was killed on April 9.
Five others, including a police officer and an immigration officer, were also shot.

Calm was initially restored in the Bawku region on April 9 through a joint operation by the police and the Ghanaian armed forces.
However, tensions flared again the next day when a group attacked Ayariga's home at Wiidi, a suburb of Bawku, reportedly in response to the earlier death.
The conflict in Bawku centres around a chieftaincy feud between the Kusasis and Mamprusi ethnic groups.
IGP Yohuno makes controversial police recruitment promise
YEN.com.gh reported that the IGP assured the youth in Bawku of conditional priority in police recruitment.
During a visit to Bawku on April 11, Yohuno said a special recruitment team would be deployed to the region.
The Minority in Parliament criticised the recruitment promise made by the IGP and stated it was reckless.
Yohuno later clarified that the special recruitment team would be part of nationwide effort in the country.
