On Thursday, August 21, 2025, the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) saw an upheaval at its headquarters in Accra. Fans stormed the security premises in their numbers following the news that Shatta Wale had been detained the night prior.
Shatta Wale was detained in connection with several criminal investigations, with detectives probing his alleged involvement in money laundering and tax evasion.
Before he was detained, EOCO confiscated Shatta Wale's 2019 Lamborghini Urus, which has been linked to an FBI case in which Shatta Wale and a former officer of the National Signals Bureau are persons of interest.
Hundreds of die-hard fans, some wielding weapons, picketed at EOCO's headquarters, demanding Shatta Wale's release.
Some of the dancehall superstar's close associates, including his management team members Sammy Flex and Leslie Quaynor (CEO of the now-defunct Fantasy Dome), were seen at the EOCO headquarters, ensuring that Shatta Wale meets his bail conditions.
Industry pals like Bullet of Rufftown Records and Captan were also present.
Medikal, who many expected to see at the security premises, was missing in action. The rapper, who is considered Shatta Wale's best friend, only shared a post at 6:13 pm, about the same time he was released.
