Mawuli Gavor described the internal struggle he faced while trying to balance his corporate obligations with creative projects.
When queried about the motivations behind his departure, Mawuli candidly spoke about how he was paid his one-year salary in a day to promote a brand.
The mounting pressure led him to contemplate abandoning his creative endeavours in favour of stability in his corporate role. Just as he was on the brink of conceding defeat, a pivotal conversation with Martini occurred.
“I will put it like this: sometimes in life, they say money stops nonsense.”
During his tenure at KPMG, he earned a monthly salary of GH¢770, which, while respectable on paper, failed to align with his growing aspirations and the opportunities springing up in the creative sector.
He recounted a particular incident:
“I was in a meeting with Martini, and it was exhausting trying to manage both worlds. I would tell them that I had to be at my job by eight o’clock. They would propose scheduling the photoshoot for 6 a.m., but often the participants wouldn't arrive until around 11 a.m. Imagine being in the middle of a photoshoot while wearing a tie, rushing to work.”
“I told the Martini team that things were not working out and that I was considering returning to my corporate job. When they learned about my yearly earnings, they outright offered to match my annual salary in one lump sum.”
This defining moment not only validated his worth but also solidified his resolve to pursue his passion wholeheartedly. He recalled the exact feeling:
“Receiving that offer felt like a doorway opening. With the amount they promised to provide, I knew there was no way I could revert to my previous life.”
He promptly communicated his resignation to HR at KPMG, marking a significant turning point in his career.

Mawuli Gavor opens up on ambassadorial deals
Throughout his narrative, Mawuli emphasised that his choice wasn’t solely driven by financial factors, but rather by the invaluable freedom and flexibility that the creative economy afforded him.
“One of the key reasons I struggle to consider returning to a conventional 9-to-5 is that I’ve discovered a way to thrive within the creative domain. It’s not just about making more money; it’s about reclaiming my time. I can earn the same amount in just 30 minutes of focused work that would otherwise take me an entire day in the corporate world.”
