Veteran Ghanaian media personality Tommy Annan-Forson has lost his brother, Gerald Annan-Forson.

Tommy Annan-Forson, known as the Godfather of Radio, rose to prominence working at the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation in the 1970s.
He later worked at the Multimedia Group's Joy FM and Choice FM and has also been credited as one of the pioneers of stand-up comedy in Ghana.
Tommy Annan-Forson loses brother Gerald
The brother of celebrated broadcaster Tommy Annan-Forson, Gerald, has been reported dead.
According to his obituary, which was shared on Facebook, he passed away on August 4, 2025, at the age of 78.
The late Gerald Annan-Forson was a celebrated photojournalist with a career spanning decades.
He was a lecturer of photography at the Ghana Institute of Journalism (GIJ), now known as the University of Media, Arts and Communications (UNIMAC-GIJ), as well as the National Film and Television Institute (NAFTI).
Annan-Forson was a founding member of the Ghana Union of Professional Photographers (GUPP).
His work earned him recognition on numerous occasions. In 1980, his coverage on Ghana’s 1979 transition to democracy was shown at the Ghana Arts Council, Accra in 1980.
He also organised and curated a major photographic exhibition at the Ghana International Trade Fair (1990).
Gerald Annan-Forson’s cause of death is currently not known.

Following reports of his death, US-based Ghanaian journalist Richard Annerquaye Abbey, formerly of the Business and Financial Times (BFT) but currently with Bloomberg, shared a post mourning the late lecturer.
Abbey, an alumnus of UNIMAC, bemoaned the news of Annan-Forson's death amid the recent tragedies that have hit the country.

"Gerald Annan-Forson too is gone? Can the week end already?" he said.
Abbey also shared a follow-up post recounting the impact Annan-Forson had on his life as a student.
"Mr. Annan-Forson was a great guy. Although he and I started off on the wrong foot, he later brought me under his wings when he took me to go cover the late Atta Mills’ swearing in. He handed me a digital camera for such a big occasion. I was in Level 200, I think." Abbey wrote.

Helicopter crash kills eight near Obuasi
Previously, YEN.com.gh reported that Defence Minister Edward Omane Boamah and seven others were killed in a helicopter crash in the Ashanti Region.
The group, comprising five high-level government officials and three military officers, crashed into the Sikaman Forest in the Adansi Afuokrom District.
News of the tragedy sparked nationwide mourning, with President John Dramani Mahama declaring three days of mourning and ordering all flags to fly at half-mast.
