Just days before the tragic helicopter crash that claimed his life, Tamale Central MP Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed stood on the floor of Parliament to contribute to the mid-year budget review debate.
In what has now become his final address, the passionate lawmaker praised some of the government’s economic strides but called on his fellow parliamentarians to embody true patriotism in their service to the nation.

On Wednesday, August 6, 2025, a Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) Z-9 military helicopter crashed in Sikaman, near Adansi Akrofuom in the Ashanti Region.
The aircraft, which departed Accra at 9:12 a.m. en route to Obuasi, carried eight people, including government officials and crew. All on board, including Dr Edward Omane Boamah and Murtala Muhammed, perished in the crash.
Eyewitnesses described the crash site as heartbreaking, with military personnel arriving swiftly to cordon off the area and recover the deceased. Later that same day, the mortal remains of the victims were solemnly airlifted to Accra, where a government delegation led by the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, received them.
The loss has plunged the nation into mourning, with tributes pouring in for Murtala and the other victims. As footage of his final speech circulates online, many have praised his unwavering dedication to national service, making his sudden departure all the more poignant.
