Details of Daddy Lumba’s father, Johnson Kwadwo Fosu’s singing career have surfaced online following the singer's death.

Daddy Lumba, widely recognised as Ghana’s greatest ever artist, was reported dead on Saturday, June 26, 2025, at the age of 60.
He reportedly fell ill at his home in East Legon and was transported to the Bank Hospital in Cantonments for treatment, but sadly succumbed to his ailment.
His family confirmed his death in a statement that celebrated the life and legacy of the late musician.
"With profound sorrow and deep grief, the Fosu family announces the passing of Ghana's beloved musical icon, Charles Kojo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba, who passed away earlier today, Saturday, July 26, 2025, after a short illness," the statement began.
"Daddy Lumba was more than a musician; he was a cultural icon whose music touched countless lives. His soulful voice provided the soundtrack to our love stories, and his poignant lyrics captured the poetry of our struggles, dreams, and resilience," it added.
Daddy Lumba’s singing talent placed him at the top of Ghanaian music for decades, having released over 30 albums and hundreds of songs.

Daddy Lumba’s father’s career
The Ghanaian highlife great was born to Johnson Kwadwo Fosu and Comfort Gyamfi, popularly known as Ama Saah, on September 29, 1964, in Nsuta.
According to one of Lumba’s uncles, Johnson Kwadwo Fosu was a teacher but also a chorister for the Methodist church in his area.
He said his brother had a voice like an angel, which made him well known in their area.

Daddy Lumba’s uncle said Johnson Kwadwo Fosu’s talent was transmitted to his son, which made him the famous singer he became.
He also explained the true origins of their family, noting that they are part of the Assin peoples and originally from Agona.
Lumba’s uncle said conflict separated their family, leading to a branch being established in Nsuta Mangoase, where Johnson gave birth to and raised his legendary son, Charles.
“We are Assin people from Agona. We were divided, and some went to Nsuta Mangoase, and that's where Lumba's father resided and gave birth to his son,” he said.

Daddy Lumba's one-week memorial date set
Previously, YEN.com.gh reported that Daddy Lumba's family announced the date for his one-week commemoration event.
In a video, the musician's family head, Kofi Owusu, announced August 30, 2025, as the date for the event to be held, with the venue yet to be decided.
