Daddy Lumba explains Yen Ne Wo Sere Kwa

Daddy Lumba poignantly recounted his memories of visiting Nsuta with his mother, where she would meet her dear friend, Yennedowo.

He often felt a tinge of curiosity as to why their conversations held such significance in his mother’s life.

But fast forward, as he navigated the challenges of illness, he recognised the deeper meaning behind those interactions.

He had always found the friend’s name to be unusual, a point of curiosity that lingered from his youth.

As he pondered over it, he came to a poignant realisation: people often feign affection and loyalty, yet they are absent during times of real need.

He reminisced about how many individuals professed their devotion to him, pledging to stand by him; however, during the gruelling ten years he fought his illness, he felt utterly alone.

"I had a chance to reflect on these relationships, and I realised that true companionship is rare," he expressed. "Even when people claim they will die for you, the reality is starkly different when you face adversity."

This sombre realisation became the foundation for one of his most cherished songs, illustrating the reality of loneliness that can accompany fame and success.

He also credited his wife’s great mother-in-law for her contribution to the song. During their conversations, she had remarked on his enduring popularity and how much he was cherished by his female fans, often leading to jealousy from their partners.

Reflecting on the complexities of human relationships, he stated,

"When you achieve fame, many people might only love you for what you represent, not for who you are. But true friends are seen during moments of hardship. Through my experience, I want listeners to understand the depth of love and the burden of loneliness."
“If one has had to rely on a wheelchair for a decade, they would truly grasp the essence of my song and the reality of human compassion,” he concluded.
