After Arsenal's defensive midfielder Thomas Partey put up an incredible performance against the reigning champions of the UEFA Champions League, Real Madrid, many fans and Ghanaians have taken to social media, calling for the club to renew his contract.

The rumour mill has it that Thomas Partey, despite his pedigree and consistent performances for the North London Club since moving from Atletico Madrid, is not guaranteed a contract renewal. The Gunners have yet to offer him a new deal.

It's based on this background that popular Arsenal fans, particularly those from Ghana and West Africa, have petitioned the club.

After Arsenal's 3-0 win in the first leg of the UCL quarterfinals at the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, fans called on the club to ensure the Ghana international stays put.

Seasoned Ghanaian media personality and broadcaster Nana Aba Anamoah, Nigerian rapper Odumodublvck, Ghanaian singer KiDi and several fans have taken to social media to hail Partey and to call on the club to ensure his contract is renewed in the summer.

"NO PARTEY NO ARSENAL. BEST PLAYER IN THE TEAM AND ITS NOT CLOSE. SENIOR," Odumodublvck wrote.

While Nana Aba Anamoah and a few others took to social media to plead with Arsenal to renew Partey's contract, others expressed a different opinion.

Those not in favour of Partey's Arsenal contract renewal explained that he has not been treated well by the club.

For instance, they pointed out the club's failure to recognise the Black Stars' player's phenomenal performance in the UEFA Champions League quarterfinal tie against Real Madrid and his instrumental role in helping Ghana during the recent international break.

Other Arsenal fans and Ghanaians could not contain their excitement and pride after watching the talented defensive midfielder put up an incredible performance against the reigning UEFA Champions League champions, Real Madrid.

"Partey has been impactful" - TV3 presenter on Arsenal contract renewal

Seasoned Ghanaian Sports journalist Bill Eshun addressed the issues surrounding Partey's contract renewal with his club, Arsenal, in an exclusive interview with YEN.com.gh.

He noted that calls from Arsenal fans for Partey's contract to be renewed was justified, adding that he has proven this season that he was one of the most important Arsenal players.

"Partey played the second-highest minutes of his career in Arsenal and has been mostly fit for games and has been very impactful. We saw what he did against Real Madrid," he said.

The TV3 sports presenter noted that the Ghanaian defensive midfielder has been consistent in the 2024/2025 season.

Mt Eshun explained that with defensive midfielder Jorginho expected to leave at the end of the 2024/2025 season, it would be important to keep Partey in the squad, unless the club plans to bring in another midfielder.

"It would be really nice to have someone of his (Partey) quality and experience tailoring the team, to provide guidance," he said.
