Via his X account, Captain Planet joined Ghanaians in sharing their views on the newly introduced GH¢1 Fuel Levy.

The musician argued that paying the GH¢1 Fuel Levy would allow him and Ghanaians to enjoy stable electricity, adding that Ghanaians must unite to build a nation, not a political party, before pledging to pay the proposed tax.

"Celebrities should speak on social issues" - Entertainment pundit

In an exclusive interview with YEN.com.gh, entertainment pundit Yaw Boadu-Ayeboafoh spoke about Captain Planet being vocal about societal issues in the country.

He explained that celebrities need to be cautious of which social issues they address openly on social media since their remarks could possibly tarnish their image.

"In Ghana, you need to be cautious of the causes you add your voice to, as it can backfire and hurt your image; however, celebrities should be ready to speak for their fans on social issues."

Bawumia criticises GH¢1 fuel tax hike

YEN.com.gh reported that former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia strongly condemned the government's decision to increase the Energy Sector Levy by GH¢1, describing it as more burdensome than the controversial E-Levy.

In his critique, Bawumia accused the Mahama-led administration of deceiving Ghanaians during the 2024 election campaign by failing to disclose the intentions of such tax hikes.

The government, however, defended the move, stating that the increased fuel tax was necessary to address the country’s US$3.1 billion energy sector debt.
