2025 BET Awards: Black Sherif Becomes Only Ghanaian To Secure Nomination

Ghanaian musician Black Sherif has been nominated in the Best International Act category for the 2025 BET Awards.

The nominee list released on May 8 has hiked up the anticipation for the main show on June 9.

Kendrick Lamar is the most nominated artiste this year with over 10 nods, including his Drake diss “Not Like Us for Video of the Year and GNX for Album of the Yeeaar for GNX.

Black Sherif is among over 10 artistes nominated in the Best International Act category, with Ayra Starr representing Nigeria and Tyla representing South Africa.

Black Sherif makes history

Ghana has had several moments at the BET Awards after Sarkodie won the country's first BET Award in 2012 with the award for "Best International Act: Africa".

Stonebwoy won in the same category three years later, crowning his debut Artiste of the Year win at the Ghana Music Awards in 2015.

Kojo Antwi, D Black, Camidoh, MzVee are among a tall list who have been nominated at the BET Awards.

Black Sherif's nomination this year sets Ghana on a new path since 2018, when the Best International Act category was rebranded.

"Black Sherif's nomination in the Best International Act category makes him the first Ghanaian artist to grab a nomination in the category since the “Best International Act: Africa” and “Best International Act: UK” BET Awards categories were merged in 2018," radio personality Ebenezer Donkoh (NYDJ) said.
